Every 30 seconds we run real probes against each service — not static labels. Database probes check WAL mode and run a sanity query. Email probes open a TCP connection to our SMTP relay. The assessment and agent APIs query their own tables to verify the DB layer is healthy. If any probe fails, the overall status drops immediately.
